We’ve all been forced to slow down, reassess ourselves, and the trajectory of our lives. I thought I knew what I wanted for so long, but having to sit alone with myself for years on end now I had to truly figured out why I am the way I am and what I want to make of this one life. I thought life would be easy after I hit that peak of happiness and started chasing my dreams. I never knew I’d get lost in the comfort of “having all my answers,” I blinked and I’m back at that low energy, irritated, stressed girl I thought I got rid of. I learned awhile ago that the only way to live happily is to make every present moment positive, but that thought has not been in my mind as much as it should be. I know i’m happiest when I wake up early, workout hard enough to break a sweat, go on long walks playing playlists I don’t know, and when I eat clean, but it’s not that easy anymore. I’m tired of finding ways to avoid fixing my sadness, as if there’s comfort in feeling this way. I want to get up and enjoy every single second of life like I once did
i would love to recommend any books by haruki murakami. he’s an amazing author and reading his books make you feel as if you are in a very strange dream. kafka on the shore & 1Q84 are my favorite by him
I am the exact same way with my hobbies, especially things like reading, writing and painting. ADHD is really something. Didn’t peg you as the sort to love mythology and fantasy novels so much. Those are my absolute favorite as well. This post has got to be the most relatable thing I have seen from you yet. I wish you all the luck with your goal this year! <3
My favorite author at the moment is Neil Gaiman. If you like mythology definitely check out Norse Mythology (I actually haven’t ready it yet but it’s high on my TBR list), but for general fantasy Neverwhere is a MUST READ.
They say that each book you read has something to do with your life, it is like a reading of letters that calls you with those words that run through your eyes, they give a sign of experience, learning or correcting something from your past that you did not know how to handle in the right way. correct, I don't know yet but if we have learned from them and some words remain internal in your heart and forever you record in your mind
How funny, I was thinking of recommending Circe to you! If you love mythology, I recommend Hannah Lynn's books, specifically Athena's Child and A Spartan's Sorrow.
if you’re looking for another great, short book, HIGHLY recommend the buddha of suburbia by hanif kureishi…follows a queer indian boy in london in the 1970s, its a brilliant coming of age !!
Have you read the House of Night Series? Yes its a y/a novel. Yes its a lot of whiny teenagers. Yes it’s about vampires. BUT one of my favorite things about this series is that they pull from different mythos/religions for the beliefs and lore on vampires and makes something beautifully unique. They apply Nyx, Cherokee beliefs, and many more to show how so many things so by so many names and that all are more similar than we think. It’s not for everyone but it is one of my favorites. P.C. Cast also has a lot of mythological based fantasy novels i enjoy as well
i say this with honesty (as much as I can manage most days) that you're one of the few writers/poets that i actually love reading and I've read quite a range in multiple langauges (though admittedly im from a tiny southeast asian nation so most of the poetry that doesn't speak to me is from my home country ... something to unpack with my therapist maybe).
unlike you & most people I don't really read fiction. i can't get behind it easily as i can poetry and / or non-fiction. i think i value real people too much and that's why i prefer books that directly speak to me from the author, by the author - almost as if i can hear their voices speak in my head.
i'll check out the few books you mentioned that aren't fantasy or hope-less ones. thks for the reccs
My name is Shruti. Like you I grew up in an Indian household. I speak telugu. I love your views on how to combat cultural biases. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. My favorite quote regarding learning is "When you are open to discovery, the answer will be left." I read voraciously. The three top movies I would recommend anyone to watch are Bharat Ane Nenu (I, Bharat...), Mahanati (2018)- biopic, and Shyam Singha Roy. Mahanati is on Amazon Prime Video and the book about the actress is on Amazon. The greatest story ever told about the greatest actress that ever lived! Shyam Singha Roy is good because it is about a writer and social activist who combats social injustices regarding violence against women.

uuu niicee, have you read anything by alejandro jodorowsky? his "dance of reality" is a real masterpiece
The Song of Achilles is such an amazing book definitely one of my favorites as well
I agree on the first two as I really loved Song of Achilles. Have you read Night Circus and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern?
Love Erin Morgenstern! Have you read the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab?
I’m reading These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong right now, and I think you’d really enjoy it!

Can you suggest any mythological stuff that you might have read
